You can make sure you're always using the latest version of Messenger by allowing automatic updates. If automatic updates are on, updates to your app will be automatically installed as they become available.

Turn auto-updates on or off for your Messenger app

This feature is only available on Android devices with the Meta App Manager installed.
  1. Open the Messenger app.
  2. Tap menu in the top left.
  3. Tap .
  4. Tap App Updates.
  5. Toggle next to Auto-update Messenger to turn on or off Messenger app updates.
The app will update using Wi-Fi or mobile data depending on your selection in Settings.
If you don't see the App Updates setting, follow these steps:
  1. Open your mobile phone's device settings.
  2. Tap Application Manager or Apps.
  3. Tap Meta App Installer.
  4. Tap Disable to turn updates off or Enable to turn them back on.
  5. Go back to Application Manager or Apps and tap Meta App Manager.
  6. Tap Disable to turn updates off or Enable to turn them back on.
If you don't see Meta App Installer or Meta App Manager in your application list, make sure you are viewing all apps (including disabled or system apps) on your device.

Change your update settings in the Google Play Store

To turn all updates on or off, you may also need to change your update settings in the Google Play Store:
  1. Open the Google Play Store app and tap your profile picture.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Network preferences, then tap Auto-update apps and choose whether you'd like to turn auto-updates on or off.
