You can control who can and can't see your story. Your existing privacy setting applies to both Messenger and Facebook, and you can change it at any time.
If you haven't posted a story before, the story settings won't be visible on Messenger.

Control the audience on your first post

  1. Take a photo or video to add to your story. When editing your story, tap Settings.
  2. Select Public, Friends or Custom.
  3. Tap Save.
If you've shared something to your story, you can access audience controls in the Privacy tab on Messenger.

Choose who can see your story

  1. Tap Menu, then tap Settings.
  2. Tap Privacy & safety.
  3. Tap Story controls.
  4. Select Public, Friends or Custom, then tap Save.

Create a custom audience list

  1. Tap Menu, then tap Settings.
  2. Tap Privacy & safety.
  3. Tap Story controls, then select Custom.
  4. Tap Select audience, then tap to select the people you'd like to include in your custom list.
  5. Tap Apply, then tap OK.
  6. Tap Save.
Note: If your story audiences are not the same across Facebook and Messenger, this may be because you are on an older version of the app. For the best experience, make sure you have the most recent version of the Facebook and Messenger apps installed on your phone.
