Turn update notifications on or off on Messenger

This feature is only available on Android devices with the Facebook App Manager installed.

Disable or enable Messenger app updates

  1. Open the Messenger app and tap Settings
  2. Tap Facebook App Manager
  3. Tap Notifications
If you don't see the App updates settings, follow these steps to disable or enable all updates from Facebook:
  1. Open your mobile phone's device settings.
  2. Tap Application Manager or Apps
  3. Tap Facebook App Installer
  4. Tap Disable to turn updates off or Enable to turn them back on
  5. Go back to Application Manager or Apps and tap Facebook App Manager
  6. Tap Disable to turn updates off or Enable to turn them back on
If you don't see Facebook App Installer or Facebook App Manager in your application list, make sure you are viewing all apps (including disabled or system apps) on your device.
Note: To turn all updates on or off, you may also need to change your update settings in the Play Store.
