Teen Accounts are currently only available in some locations. Teen Accounts are being rolled out on an individual basis, which means parents and guardians may have a teen who has a Teen Account before their other teens do.
Even if Teen Accounts are available in your area, they may not be available to everyone on Messenger.
Setting up supervision on Messenger requires confirmation from a parent or guardian. If a teen sends a request for supervision, and the parent accepts, supervision is confirmed. Keep in mind, only one parent can be supervising a teen’s account.
To be supervised, teens must be 13-17, and the parent must be over 18 years old. Both teens and parents may need to have or create a Facebook account to accept the supervision invitation.

Note: Supervision features require the latest version of the Messenger app for iPhone and Android. The teen must update the Messenger app. The parent must either update the Messenger app, or visit www.messenger.com using a desktop or mobile browser. If some features of supervision aren't working appropriately, update the Messenger app.
Eligibility and privacy for parents
Sending invites
Teens or parents can send invites for supervision. Parents who want to supervise more than one teen can send the same invite to each teen they want to supervise.
Keep in mind, invites expire 7 days from the time they are first created. If the invite has expired, follow the steps to create a new invite.
Send an invite
- Go to familycenter.meta.com/dashboard.
- Click Create invite.
- Review the information on screen, then click Next.
- Click Create invite.
- Click the invite link to copy it to your clipboard, then paste it to share with your parent.
Resend or cancel invites
Invites expire after 7 days. You can resend or cancel an invite if it has been less than 7 days since you first created the invite. If it’s been more than 7 days, create a new invite with the steps above.
Accept or decline invites
You can accept or decline a supervision invite. Supervision will start based on who sent the invite. If a parent sends their teen an invite, supervision will start after the invite is accepted. If a teen sends their parent an invite, supervision will start after the parent accepts the invite and the teen confirms the parent who accepted as the correct person to supervise their account.
To accept or decline an invite, open the invite link that was sent to you by your parent or teen, then follow the instructions on screen to accept or decline.
The person who invited you will get a notification that you accepted or declined their supervision invite.
If an invite is declined, and the teen is under 16, they won’t be able to make any updates to their Teen Account settings until they turn 16.
Supervision with multiple accounts or people
If you have multiple Facebook accounts, make sure you are logged into your preferred account when you open the invite link. You can log in and reopen the link if needed.
A parent can supervise more than one teen’s account, but they can only send one active invite link at a time. For security purposes, Messenger may limit the number of teen accounts that a parent account can supervise at any given time.

Supervision and account blocking
A parent can’t supervise a teen’s account if either of them has blocked each other. Learn how to unblock someone.
If you block your parent or teen while supervising, supervision will automatically be removed and your parent or teen will be notified.
Note: If supervision is removed for a teen under 16, their Teen Account settings will revert to the default settings for Teen Accounts.
Notifications
Parents and teens can get notificationsfrom Messenger about supervision activity. If a parent or teen has turned on push notifications for Messenger, they may get push notifications. If they have email notifications turned on, they may get email notifications.
