This feature is gradually being introduced and may not be available to you yet.
Your end-to-end encrypted chat history is stored in your backup on Messenger. When you switch devices, you need to enter your PIN to restore your chat history. This is the same PIN that you would’ve entered when you first created a backup on Messenger and chose to use a PIN.
If you can’t remember your PIN, you can reset it. If you have access to a mobile device where you've previously used Messenger, you can also restore your chats with a one-time code.

If you forgot your PIN and need to reset it, you must reset it on a device where you either created your PIN or previously entered it.
- Open your Messenger mobile app.
- Tap Menu, then tap Settings.
- Tap Privacy & safety.
- Tap End-to-end encrypted chats.
- Tap Message storage.
- Tap Reset PIN.
If you don’t recall creating a PIN or you’re being asked to enter a 40-character code, see other options to restore your end-to-end encrypted chats on Messenger.
