Community chats are chats created specifically for Facebook groups. Note that they are not available to all groups (example: commerce groups) or people at this time.
A community chat is a chat created specifically for your Facebook group, designed for real-time and more public conversations with other group members.
However, some groups or people may not have access to the community chats feature yet. If community chats are available to you, you will see them in the left menu of your Messenger mobile apps, messenger.com, or Facebook group.
If you can’t see, join or participate in a community chat(s), it might be because:
Availability
- This feature is being gradually introduced. It may not be available to you or the group yet.
Community Standards violations
- Facebook disabled the group or the chat for violating our Community Standards. If you’re an admin, learn how to view and appeal violations in the Group Quality tool.
- The group admins temporarily restricted your ability to participate in a group.
- Facebook temporarily restricted your ability to participate in a group or community chat due to such factors as violations of our Community Standards. We understand that this can be frustrating, and we recommend checking your Support Inbox for any additional information, including how to appeal.
Bug
- You recently installed the Messenger app. Try closing and re-opening the app.
- Try these troubleshooting steps for Facebook or Messenger. If you can’t troubleshoot the issue, you can report the problem for Facebook or Messenger.
Group admins
- The group admins don't have community chats turned on.
Note: Some countries in Europe may not yet have all community chat features, such as the ability to create polls, use word effects, send stickers and more.
