Meta AI can answer questions, offer advice and give contextual suggestions, generate custom images and more on Messenger. You can communicate with Meta AI through text or voice.
You can start a conversation with Meta AI to chat directly, or you can mention @Meta AI in a chat with other people.

Chat directly with Meta AI

  1. To start or open a conversation with Meta AI from your Messenger mobile app, you can:
    • Tap and hold Meta AI in the bottom right.
    • Tap Meta AI in the search bar at the top.
    • Find an existing conversation with Meta AI in your Chats list and tap to open.
  2. Enter a prompt, then tap Send.
  3. Meta AI will respond to you in a chat, where you can continue the conversation.
When chatting directly with Meta AI, Meta AI can remember details you choose to share with it. It’ll then use those details when generating responses for you.

Use Meta AI in chats with other people on Messenger

  1. Open an existing chat.
  2. In the text box, enter @ then tap Meta AI, followed by your message. For example, you can ask the AI to answer a question or tell a joke.
  3. Meta AI’s response will be sent as a message in the chat.
Others in your chat will be able to see your message to the AI, as well as the AI’s response. Be mindful before including any personal information in your message (examples: name, address, email or phone number).

About mentioning @Meta AI in chats on Messenger

Meta AI will read and reply to content that is shared with Meta AI, including messages that mention @Meta AI, @Meta AI /AI image prompts, messages you ask Meta AI to summarize and more.
In group chats, when you or others mention @Meta AI, messages from the past 30 days are shared with Meta AI in order for Meta AI to give relevant responses. Note: This experience is not available in all countries at this time. If this experience is not available to you yet, mentioning @Meta AI in a group chat will only share the message it is mentioned in.
