You can reach the Meta AI assistant for questions, advice and more on Messenger. You can communicate with Meta AI through voice or text. Learn more about voice conversations with Meta AI.

Start a conversation with Meta AI

  1. To open a conversation with Meta AI from your Messenger mobile app, you can:
    • Tap and hold Meta AI in the bottom right.
    • Tap Meta AI in the search bar at the top.
    • Find an existing conversation with Meta AI in your Chats list and tap to open.
  2. Enter a prompt, then tap Send.
  3. Meta AI will respond to you in a chat, where you can continue the conversation.
When chatting directly with Meta AI, Meta AI can remember details you choose to share with it. It’ll then use those details when generating responses for you. Learn more about how to have Meta AI remember details about you on Messenger.

Use Meta AI in chats with other people on Messenger

You can mention the Meta AI assistant in an existing chat with other people to:

  1. Open an existing chat.
  2. In the text box, enter @ then tap Meta AI, followed by your message. For example, you can ask the AI to answer a question or tell a joke.
  3. Meta AI’s response will be sent as a message in the chat.

Meta AI can only read and reply to messages that mention @Meta AI, including @Meta AI /AI image prompts. Others in your chat will be able to see your message to the AI, as well as the AI’s response. Be mindful before including any personal information in your message (examples: name, address, email or phone number).

Note

    • Similar to other chats, interactions with AI are subject to our Community Standards and Terms of Service.
    • An AI’s response may be inaccurate or inappropriate and should not be used to make important decisions.
    • Meta uses your interactions with AIs to improve AI at Meta. If the AIs cannot answer your query, Meta shares the messages you send to AI and general information, like your region, with select partners so you can get better results. Visit our Meta AI Terms of Service to learn more.
    • Meta AI uses your location information to give you more relevant responses. Your location information is based on things like the settings you've chosen on your device, or your activity across our products. Learn more about how to manage your location in the Privacy Center.
    • Other information from your profile such as your age and gender, and interests based on your activity across our products, such as the types of content, including ads, you view or interact with and how you interact with it, will be used to help personalize your interactions with AI. This information will also be used to improve AI at Meta. Learn more about how Meta uses this information in the Privacy Center.     • Depending on your prompt, the content generated may go against our Community Standards or Terms of Service of Meta's platforms. Sharing AI-generated content on our platforms that go against these standards will be treated the same as sharing other content that go against our standards. If you share generated content that goes against our standards, your content may be removed and your account may be restricted or disabled.   • In end-to-end encrypted chats with other people, messages that mention @Meta AI and messages from Meta AI are not encrypted. All other messages in the chat remain encrypted unless someone in the chat shares them with Meta to use an optional feature.
