The Code Verify web browser extension can add security to end-to-end encryption when you use Messenger on the web.
Code Verify automatically checks that you’re using an authentic version of Messenger Web to ensure that your messages are between you and your intended recipients. If Code Verify detects that the code you're using to run Messenger Web doesn’t match the code everyone else is using, the extension notifies you to take action.
Use Code Verify
- Download the Code Verify web browser extension from the Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge browser extension stores.
- Pin Code Verify to your toolbar.
- Use Messenger Web (messenger.com or facebook.com) to automatically run Code Verify. When the code is fully validated, you’ll see a checkmark in a green circle on the toolbar.
In your toolbar, click the green, orange or red Code Verify icon to see its status. Click Learn More for how to resolve certain issues or download the source code to investigate further.
Note:
- The extension won’t read or access the messages you send or receive, and we won’t know if you’ve downloaded the extension.
- The extension doesn’t log any data, metadata or user data, and it doesn’t share any information with Messenger. It also doesn’t read or access the messages you send or receive.
- The extension verifies code for Messenger Web and doesn't impact Messenger Desktop.
- Performance might depend on pausing or disabling other browser extensions.
Error messages and how to fix them
