Create categories to organize your community chats on Messenger

Community chats will be going away soon.
You can download your Community chat messages before they’re permanently deleted. To download your information:
- Open the Messenger app.
- Tap Learn more on the Community chats banner at the top.
- Tap Download your information.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Note: Before Community chats are deleted, they will be paused. You can still read messages, but you won't be able to send new ones.
You can keep your group connected by creating a similar Messenger Community. This community will be seperatefrom your Facebook group, but you can:
- Start a main chat for members
- Share important news and updates with announcements
- Share or plan events
Community chats are chats created specifically for Facebook groups. Note that they are not available to all groups (example: commerce groups) or people at this time.
Admins can create categories to help organize a Facebook group’s community chats by topics on Messenger.
Create a new category for community chats
- Tap
Menu.
- Scroll down to Facebook groups, then tap a group to open it.
- In the top right, tap
Admin shield.
- Scroll down, then tap Organize.
- Tap Add and enter a new category name, then tap Add again to confirm.
Add an existing community chat to a category
- Tap
Menu.
- Scroll down to Facebook groups, then tap a group to open it.
- Tap the chat you want to add to a category.
- Tap the name of the chat at the top, then tap Edit chat.
- Tap Category, then select a category.
- Tap Save in the top right.
